🎬 #152 Intermission.
I have a friend who sometimes feels like she’s not watching enough films. As if it’s something to keep on top of like learning a new language. I totally know where she’s coming from. But the truth is that even if you watched everything you’d ever wanted to watch, 24/7, you’d never see it all. There are over a hundred year’s worth of films, with countless new releases every year. That’s a huge back catalogue to watch with without having to see anything new.
And that’s just film - there are huge volumes of TV shows released with startling frequency. It can sometimes feel like a frantic race to hoover up all this material so you can talk to your friends about it or feel like you’re on top of the new hot thing.
As it’s coming closer to the end of the year and it’s a natural period of reflection, I’d encourage everyone to give yourself a break from that feeling, like you’re not watching enough, being well read enough, keeping on top of enough. Because there is no test at the end of it all.
I’ll be back next week [in 2025] with the normal format :)
In the meantime, I want to thank you for reading the newsletter and subscribing. It really means a lot to me. And to my paying subscribers thank you so much.
Merry Xmas and Happy New Year.
