🎬 #165 Two Upcoming Films. (:
I don’t tend to write too much about trailers of upcoming films. But I wanted to try something slightly different this week. This week it’s all about two trailers that have me very excited for releases this year. Hope you enjoy!
Happy viewing,
Bry
FILM ONE: WARFARE
2025 Dir Alex Garland | Ray Mendoza
1 hr 35 mins
For his latest, Garland has teamed up with war Veteran Ray Mendoza to bring us a real time war film, recreated from the memories from the real event. The trailer promises a practical, intensely detailed depiction, to give us an approximation of what it must be like to be surrounded by enemy - outnumbered, deep in insurgent territory. Looks like we’re going to be subjectively stuck in the ‘suck,’ never coming up for air.
The action isn’t flashy - but instead brutal, concrete - percussive. You can smell the blood and feel the numb, hot sting of shrapnel. It’s a tense, pressure cooker situation. Sitting ducks, entombed in a house in Iraq. Trying their best to get out alive. Enjoy the trailer below and strap in for what promises to be a nerve shattering, anxiety propelling dive into a horrific situation.
*Coming to cinemas on April 11th in the US and April 18th in the UK
Fact: First of Alex Garland’s films not to be shot by Rob Hardy.
FILM TWO: ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER
2025 Dir Paul Thomas Anderson
2 hrs 50 mins
Was very excited to see this released this week. The first look at Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film - which looks very much like a Paul Thomas Anderson action film in many ways. The trailer includes Teyana Taylor’s character pregnant while very excitedly firing a machine gun, which is a hell of a combination. Visceral, funny, disturbing - it’s got it all. And that’s kind of exactly what the trailer promises the film to be. It’s got big energy, it looks fun, heavy, larger than life and yet down in the gravel, with DiCaprio’s character, scrambling about for a solution to a big problem he has.
This looks to be PTA’s most obviously ‘mobile’ film yet with an even bigger cast than any other in his filmography. It looks like everyone involved had a an amazing time putting this one together. Love the texture of the imagery, the colours, the dustiness - can’t wait for this one to light up the cinemas. Enjoy the trailer below.
*Coming to cinemas on September 25th.
Fact: This is the director’s highest budget film yet at $110 Million.
